Congratulations to Terry Loftis, Director, Engineering, who was appointed as the new Chairman of DNV’s Rig Owners Committee. DNV (Det Norske Veritas) is a global provider of services for managing risk. The committee Terry now leads represents owners and managers of Mobile Offshore Units (MOUs) and Floating Production Units. “The objective of the committee is to provide an active forum for the industry to share and discuss current and future developments in technology, practices and support initiatives that will benefit the industry.”
Terry began his career in the oil industry on the well logging services side as a technical operations manager. He was then a consultant for rig designs on the Jack Bates and Deepwater Pathfinder. After joining Transocean in 1997, Terry worked on shipyard construction teams for the Deepwater Pathfinder, Deepwater Millennium, Deepwater Frontier and Deepwater Discovery. Terry was promoted to his current role as Director, Engineering, on the first of this year and February 2013 marked his 16th year with Transocean.
Terry is no stranger to oil industry associations. His experience supports his active presence in multiple organizations such as the Marine Technology Society, the Society of Petroleum Engineers and currently the IADC Advanced Rig Technology Committee, where he serves as the Vice Chairman and previously led the Drilling Control Systems Subcommittee. Terry was recently honored with the “IADC Exemplary Service Award,” from Stephen Colville, President and CEO, IADC.
