Achievements and Milestones

CANADA—The GSF Grand Banks received the 2010 VOS (Voluntary Observation Ship) award from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for outstanding support in marine observations. GSF Grand Banks provided more than 1,385 observations in 2010 and was in the top 50 of all 4,000 marine vessels in the U.S. VOS fleet. The Discoverer Clear Leader and Discoverer Deep Seas were also recognized for outstanding VOS participation in 2010.

VOS awards are issued each year to ships which have excelled in their contribution to the U.S. VOS program.

The program’s mission is to collect and disseminate critical real-time maritime weather observations and to define the global climate and help measure extreme weather events, climate variability and long-term climate changes. For more information, visit www.noaa.gov.

EQUATORIAL GUINEA—GSF Rig 140 achieved 365 days without a recordable incident in November. “Reaching a safety milestone requires the commitment and participation of everyone on the rig. We have had a very good year in 2011 in terms of safety. I would like to personally thank everybody for helping make the 140 a safe place to work,” said Karl Jackson, MEGI Company Man, who worked with the crew during the rig’s contract with ExxonMobil.

EGYPT—Transocean Comet achieved two years without a recordable incident on October 13, 2011. “This is an excellent achievement of which everyone involved with the operation should be proud,” said Phil Prestridge, Drilling General Manager, GUPCO. “Reaching this milestone has been the result of a great deal of hard work by the large number of people involved in this operation. The really important outcome is that the team on the Comet can look forward to coming to work and then leaving at the end of each tour offshore in the same (or better) condition that they arrived in. Many thanks for your hard work and professional approach that has led to this accomplishment.”

HOUSTON—Bradley Maddox (kneeling), Jorge Mariscal, Cecil Hubbard, Matthew Samm, Carl Scheuers, Tim Kelley, Tim Pruett, Sandy Tedeschi and Hiwatha (Dray) Harper celebrate in August two years without a recordable incident at the Houston Materials Center.

MALAYSIA—Yau Kah Tak, Rig Manager – Asset, presents Sedco 601 OIM Geoff Cuthbertson with a certificate in recognition of the rig achieving 2,000 days without a lost-time incident earlier this year.

Deepwater Expedition, Transocean Receive Customer Awards

The Deepwater Expedition, working offshore Malaysia, and Transocean took two of the top three awards given by PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd Exploration Division at its annual HSE Awards and Recognition Forum held November 3 in Kuala Lumpur. The DWE was awarded Best Contractor – Drilling, and Transocean received Best Contractor – Special Initiative, based on HSE performance from October 1, 2010 to October 1, 2011.

In the Drilling category, the contractor must demonstrate conformance to the PETRONAS HSE Management System. As part of that evidence, the Deepwater Expedition completed one year without a lost-time incident on October 5, 2011.

In the Special Initiative category, the winning selection is based on the effectiveness of operational HSE improvement initiatives. Transocean was presented the award based on its Hands-Free Campaign with notable reductions in hand and finger injuries and handling incidents.
