Division Director, Projects – Europe and Africa
“Very humbling” is how Bill described receiving the FIRST Excellence Award. It gives Bill a sense of pride to be recognized for how he performs business daily. “For my division and I, this award reflects how we work every day.”
Bill applies the FIRST Core Values in all aspects of work at Transocean. He gives thanks to his family for his upbringing as he credits this for instilling some of these same values in himself. “I practice what I have been taught. Take double care of other people’s belongings. I am better with the company’s money than I am with my own. It is important to treat people how you want to be treated; respect goes hand in hand with that,” he said.
“Bill holds to very strong principles in the way he conducts his work and his life, principles that have been born from a hard start in Glasgow’s shipyards and his career progression since. The values of FIRST came very naturally to Bill when he was introduced to them at the time of the GSF merger, due to these underlying principles,” said Adrian Blake, Director Asset Management, Luxembourg. “Many leadership qualities come naturally to Bill.”
Bill takes leadership to a whole new level. He is known for helping people reach their full potential and considers it one of his biggest personal accomplishments thus far at Transocean.
“He derives pleasure and genuine satisfaction from supporting those around him to develop and never shies away from providing constructive feedback to help them achieve their goals,” said Alan Caldow, Division Manager – Asset, North Sea Division.
For Bill, the best thing about working at Transocean is the people. He enjoys the high performance team that he works with and being able to walk in the door every day with a smile on his face.
