In 32 years with the company, Gilles has put his technical skills to the test many times, always delivering first-rate performance. He takes a calm and systematic approach to every task and time after time he solves the issue. This past year, Gilles’ hard work to complete the installation and commissioning of the EPL riser elevator can be directly credited for the successful completion of the project and the avoidance of significant amounts of downtime.

“The riser elevator had been all but abandoned by the Controls Team Leader after a very frustrating battle with the installation,” said GSF Explorer Senior Toolpusher Chris Montgomery. “The rig was in a position where the customer would not accept the rig without the riser elevator being operational. Gilles was called upon to resurrect a project on the GSF Explorer. He sacrificed his plans for the Christmas holiday and arrived on the rig with his sleeves rolled up and set to work. He systematically worked through each problem and developed solutions rather than excuses.”

Gilles was very humbled by being a FIRST Excellence Award recipient. To him, he is just doing his ordinary, everyday work. He feels this award does not only recognize his accomplishments, but those also of his peers and his managers. It is a reminder to himself that he is heading the right way and to keep it up.

Over the years, Gilles has worked in several regions and countries. He looks forward to tackling more challenges in years to come. “I meet fantastic people coming from every part of the world and every culture. I also enjoy the challenge. This job is very challenging. I love what I am doing now and hope to continue with my ambition to achieve.”
