Janelle Daniel

Director, Global HR Services - Houston

Working in the oil industry since the 1980s, Janelle truly understands the diversity in the marketplace. Over the past 18 months, her knowledge and skills have really been put to the test.

Janelle has been involved in several crises faced by Transocean. She was a key leader in the Macondo tragedy response team and was dispatched to New Orleans where she provided immediate solutions. While on a business trip in Singapore, Janelle managed to help evacuate the Egypt Division to Paris in 36 hours to avoid political unrest.

Janelle understands the importance of carrying out a plan the right way for the right reasons. “Janelle’s desire to ‘do the right thing’ for both the employee and the company, combined with her good business sense, have resulted in sound and effective decisions,” said Larry Mills, Director, Human Resources, Europe and Africa.

Janelle gives much thanks to her team and colleagues for being able to manage each task given as a group. “I have an incredible team that has supported me over the years. They are extremely hard workers. When they need to execute, they execute. It would be lovely if it could be a team award,” she said.

“Janelle has an uncanny ability to quickly and efficiently form a plan, rally personnel and perform,” said Sherry Martin, Manager, Global Mobility-Travel. “It is a testament to her leadership skills that she can form an emergency response team regardless of the time of night or day of the week. Janelle does not simply delegate, she fully participates.”

One key person who has helped Janelle along the way is President and CEO of Transocean, Steven Newman. “Throughout his career at Transocean, Steven has been highly inspiring and has paved a path of excellent leadership for me and my team to follow,” Janelle said.
