Well Engineering Division Manager – India and Middle East
Spending the majority of his childhood traveling the world with his family as his father was in the military; Nigel yearned for a chance to continue his travels within his career. Transocean was a company that could do just that. He started here nearly 38 years ago as a Roustabout. Nigel worked his way up to Toolpusher, Driller, Senior Drilling Supervisor and was recently promoted to Well Engineering Division Manager.
“The company has looked after me and I hope that I have done the same thing for the company,” Nigel said. “They have educated me in the drilling industry; they have moved me around the world and given me the opportunity to work with many different nationalities and diverse cultures.”
Living by the Core Values, Nigel’s consistent commitment and loyalty to the company, his colleagues, and his customers have been noticed by many.
“Nigel has demonstrated his ability to make key decisions to aid in drilling operations, logistics, and other daily operations of the rig resulting in saving time and cost to the company and the customer,” said Deckpusher John Lightfoot, who worked with Nigel when he was Senior Drilling Supervisor on the Discoverer Seven Seas. “He participates in our START process on a regular basis and is willing to cooperate and back any safety concerns that are brought to his attention. He is a leader in that he is willing to pass his knowledge and experience to new Drillers, Assistant Drillers, Floormen, and anyone who wants to learn.”
Nigel is currently working in India, and loves it. Ten years from now he hopes to be overcoming challenges in India, and perhaps even in South America. “I’ve worked many places throughout the world. I haven’t made South America yet, but I am still keeping my options open and hoping I can get the opportunity to get down there,” he said.
