Maintenance Supervisor, Sedco 706,

Brazil

Richard’s position as Maintenance Supervisor has played a lead role in the operational start-up of the Sedco 706 in Brazil. He was essential in overcoming initial challenges of the rig’s start-up considering a new team with new equipment and his efforts are directly linked to the success of the rig today. The 706’s minimal downtime in 2010 is confirmation to his dedication and leadership of the Maintenance Department.

“He explores all opportunities to fit quality maintenance on critical path equipment by working closely with the customer to ensure this is carried out on a timely basis without any loss of revenue to Transocean or any loss of credibility in the eyes of the customer,” said Sedco 706 Offshore Installation Manager Gary Slaney. “This approach and careful planning in 2010 resulted in the rig finishing the year with less than 2.5% downtime. Richard is very much a people person. Everyone that works for or with Richard holds him in very high regards.”

While working on the Sedco 706, Richard has found a second family in his fellow crewmembers who give him support whenever he is away from home. “I am fortunate enough to have a fantastic crew within the Maintenance Department,” he said. “They embody technical leadership and strive to make things better. In terms of respect, each individual on the rig has a specific reason and skill set. These individuals are the core of success at every level.”

For Richard, the best thing about working for Transocean is the exceptional expertise and resources that are available to him. As a company that understands its industry, Transocean is always looking to innovate and improve. “Over the past 21 years, one thing I have enjoyed about Transocean is the technical innovation they have put forward in newbuilds, upgrades, and putting new equipment on our vessels,” Richard said.
