In 2010, Trident 20 was hit with several challenges and managed to overcome them with flying colors. One of the most commended was moving the rig from Turkmenistan to Kazakhstan to work for another customer. This farm out demanded a great deal of additional preparation work, both onshore and offshore, to ensure a safe and successful move.

The nomination explained how the Trident 20 was in a situation where if not moved correctly, the rig could be surrounded by ice. After much assessment and evaluation, the rig worked with the customer to ensure a timely and suitable execution plan. The Trident 20 team, both from the office and the rig, managed to display extra effort in order to perform the challenge successfully.

While efficiently and safely continuing to improve the drilling of wells, the unplanned downtime of the rig decreased to .3% . In 2010, Trident 20 was named in the top five performers countless times in the Europe and Africa Business Unit. In June 2010, Trident 20 was awarded EAU Best Operational Performer. The rig’s constant high performance allowed Trident 20 to reach three years without a Lost-Time Incident (LTI) and two years without a recordable incident.

Toolpusher Jason Smith and Crane Operator Farid Yusifov described the relationship between the crewmembers aboard the Trident 20 as a tight-knit family. “There were 14 different nationalities on board and despite the occasional language barriers, they worked exceptionally well as a team and there was a tremendous amount of respect between employees,” Jason said.

[Editor’s Note: A few months after the FIRST Excellence Awards were celebrated, the Trident 20 was sold. We thank the crew of Trident 20 for their dedication to the company’s Core Values.]
