Sedco 706 DPO Gives Back in Macaè
Few people know of the natural wonders – and adventure – that exist in the mountains near Macaè, Brazil … especially those grounded by wheelchairs and other physical disabilities.

That’s why Sedco 706 DPO Everaldo Esterque (known as Vavá) in May took a group of six people with disabilities high up into the mountains to experience some of the excitement he and his wife have found there since they began a local tourism company in 2001 on his off-hitch time.

“We bought a small GPS and started slowly exploring the mountains to find things that nobody knows about,” Vava said.

The group participated in some extreme rafting, which didn’t require the use of their legs – but did require an adventurous spirit. The group received instructions on water safety, and instructors were placed in positions to help if necessary.

Vavá reports that everyone had an excellent time, and wants to come back to discover more.

Brazil Re-Launches Social Action Committee!
The Brazil team in October re-launched their GAST (Group of Transocean’s Social Actions) committee with a new president and new goals for 2010.

The GAST committee reviews and manages the South America division’s charitable contributions and organizes employee volunteer efforts. The committee was originally formed in 2003, but lost steam after a few years. Today, they’re picking up where they left off and ready to begin a new era of community service in Brazil!
