One of the foursomes at the tournament held in August: Ron Krepps, Drilling Engineer, Transocean; David Hamilton, Development Programs Manager, Transocean; Vic Seekman, President, Energy Products, LLC; and Adam Hess, Performance Rig Manager, Development
Driller III.
More than 200 golfers, supporters and United States military veterans participated in the Second Annual Team RWB (Red, White and Blue) Golf Tournament held in August at Cinco Ranch Country Club. Transocean’s Gary Bartels, Accelerated Operations Manager Trainee, coordinated the event, which included several teams made up of Transocean employees, clients and suppliers. More than $44,000 was raised for the Houston chapter of Team RWB, which is a veteran support organization dedicated to enriching the lives of wounded veterans and their families.
Jared Sanchez (right), Chief Mechanic, Discoverer Inspiration, met Gary Bartels (left) while Gary was onboard the drillship for Rig Manager training. Gary, a West Point graduate and veteran, told Jared about the Team RWB golf tournament and Jared decided to become a sponsor of the event. While the tournament receives support from several corporate sponsorships, Gary has also been grateful for the individual support of Jared Sanchez, Chief Mechanic, Discoverer Inspiration. “Jared is the only individual sponsor we have, not affiliated with a company. He has sponsored the drink cart each year and is just a unique and wonderful person to want to get involved with the tournament.” Jared has not served in the military, although his brother is a wounded Marine veteran. “It’s just my way to help out and pay some of the fellows back. They make a great sacrifice for us,” Jared said.
Although he said he’s a terrible golfer, Jared said he might try to play next year, in addition to sponsoring the drink cart again. For more information on next year’s tournament planned for June or July, contact Gary Bartels at Gary@teamrwb.org. For more information on Team RWB, visit www.teamrwb.org.
